That title may sound dramatic, but ya’ll -I’m completely serious.
Over the winter holiday, I allowed my clean eating to go right out the window. I indulged in tons of dairy-laden treats, breads, pastas, and SO. MUCH. SUGAR. I had completely forgotten how much havoc mass amounts of sugar reeks on me. I was tired, cranky, and so anxious. I woke up in the middle of the night terrified that someone might break into our house. Not exactly the mood I was hoping for over my winter holidays. Sugary diets are HORRIBLE for anxiety. The blood sugar spike followed by the sugar crash and burn is a recipe for disaster when it comes to depression, anxiety, and mood.

Then, I discovered Kelly Leveque’s book Body Love. I wish I could hug her because this book has really educated me and transformed the way I eat. If you are tired of feeling tired or ready to lose some extra pounds, Kelly’s approach will help you. She explains the science behind it all and blends it with a much less rigid approach than most “diets”. Her approach is really a lifestyle shift, not a diet, because it is sustainable and you don’t feel deprived. I could go on and on about this, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. Get the book!
One of the biggest takeaways from her book is this: The Fab Four. These are macronutrients that will help you balance your blood sugar and hunger hormones.
- (Good) Fat
To start, Kelly suggests incorporating the Fab Four into smoothies to drink in the morning for one week. She suggests not changing anything else (yet) and just trying out the smoothies in the morning. By day three, I was SOLD. These smoothies kept me energized and satisfied until lunch. When I did eat lunch, I wanted to eat more Fab Four foods because it made me feel so great! It’s been a really positive change for me. My mood is significantly improved and I don’t have that familiar 2 pm crash every day.
Tonight I wanted to share my very favorite fab four smoothie recipe. I concocted this one myself using Kelly’s Fab Four principles, but she has tons of recipes on her website.
my favorite green smoothie recipe:
1/4 cup mango (frozen or fresh) (fiber + flavor)
half cucumber (sliced) (fiber + greens)
1 handful of spinach leaves (greens)
1 tsp coconut oil (good fats)
2 scoops of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (protein)
1 tsp chia seeds (fiber + superfood)
1 tsp Spirulina Powder (superfood + extra protein)
squeeze of half a lemon (flavor)
Pulse all ingredients in your blender until completely blended. Pour into your favorite cup & get ready for a great day! Living with balanced blood sugar is a WHOLE NEW WORLD! To learn all the amazing science behind it, be sure to check out the book!
